Smite DE Powder is an organic mineral product that is particularly effective in the prevention and treatment of red mite and lice in poultry and game fowl. It encourages and supports healthy living conditions for animals and poultry, due to the reduction in parasitic organisms which feed off the host. This in turn reduces irritation and other harmful effects and supports productivity and good health. Smite powder abrades and absorbs the protective waxy surface of the insects in a purely physical action causing them to desiccate.
Unlike many of it’s peers it works in moist areas where moulds, fungi, mites and crawling insects thrive therefore allowing it to control ants, fleas, bedbugs, cockroaches, stored product insects, mites (including Red Mite), Book Lice, Silverfish etc.
Application of the powder is very simple just ensure that the insects/ mites make contact with the powder. Apply dry Smite Organic DE Powder around drinker and feeder lines and appliances and in and around areas which insects are frequently found. Smite Organic DE Powder can also be mixed with water at the rate of 4 tablespoons of Smite Organic DE Powder to 1 gallon (4.5lt) of water and sprayed onto the areas to be treated. As the powder doesn’t dissolve the mixture should be shaken or agitated frequently to ensure the mixture is consistent. The addition of 1 tablespoon of mild detergent (such as washing-up liquid) to the mixture will help to keep the powder in suspension and distribute it further into cracks and crevices.
Smite Organic DE Powder can also be used for dustbaths, nest boxes and in the litter or bedding areas. Smite Organic DE Powder also improves foot condition and contributes to the well-being of the animal.
It consists of fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae, which is used as a desiccant powder and drying agent for use in poultry and livestock bedding and housing areas. The natural silica absorbs any moisture and neutralises ammonia, so reducing odours and creating a dry environment in which it is impossible for mite and insects to thrive.
